Newwiela Point (Ras il-Newwiela) dive site is located on the South Coast of Gozo, further west from Mgarr Ix-Xini and Fessej Rock. Newwiela point is definately a boat dive, below the high cliffs on this side of Gozo. The characteristics of Newwiela point is a drop-off reaching a sandy bottom at 45M, with loads of huge boulders to explore. For those technical divers there is another drop-off a few metres away reaching depths of 80M.

On Sunday 17th February, ATLAM SAC organised the usual sunday boat dive. Due to good weather conditions (finally not a strong NW wind), the club decided to make best use of this opportunity and dive on the west side of what is really called Ras Il-Newwiela. The club had already dived the east side of Newwiela point the other week so the west side it was.

The group of 12 club divers entered the cold water at a temperature of 12 C. Amongst us, 3 technical divers ventured into the deep blue well below recreational diving. At the end of the dive after 60mins , all divers were back on board getting dry and warm. Happy smiles from everyone since it was a fantastic dive and good weather.
